ब्राह्मणी 1 A woman of the Brahmana caste. -2 The wife of a Brahmana.-3 Intellect; (बुद्धि according to नीलकण्ठ).-4A kind of lizard; हृष्टः पश्यति तस्यान्तं ब्राह्मणी करकादिव Ram. 3. 29.5. -BA kind of wasp.-8 A kind of brass (Mar. सोनपितळ). -Comp. -गामिन् m. the paramour of a Brāhmaṇa woman.
बाह्मण्य a. Befitting a Brahmana. -ण्य: An epithet of the planet Saturn. -COL 1 The station or rank of a Brahmana, priestly or sacerdotal character; सत्यं शपे ब्राह्मण्येन MR.5D Pt.1.66%3 Ms. 3.1737.42. -2 A collection of Brahmanas ; ब्राह्मण्यं कृत्स्नमेतत्त्वां ब्रह्मण्यमनुगच्छति Ram. 2.45.21.
class of the Vedic works which contain the Brahmaņa portion (regarded as Sruti or part of the revelation like the hymns themselves ). mana; ब्राह्मणप्रतिवेश्यानामेतदेवानिमन्त्रणे Y.2.263. -प्रियः N. of Visnu. -बुव: one who pretends to be a Brahmanas one who is a Brāhmaṇa only in name and neglects the duties of his caste; बहवो ब्राह्मणब्रुवा निवसन्ति Dk.; सममब्राह्मणे दानं द्विगुणं ब्राह्मणब्रुवे Ms.7.853 8.20. -भावः the rank or condition of a Brahmana. -भूयिष्ठ a. consisting for the most part of Brahmanas. -यष्टिका,-यष्टी Clerodendrum Siphonantus (Mar. भारंग). -वध: the murder of a Brahmana, Brahmanicide. -वाचनम् the recitation of benedictions. -संतपंणम् feeding or satistying Brahmapas.
ब्राह्मणक: 1 A bad or unworthy Brahmana (only in name); एवं युक्तो ब्राह्मणः स्यादन्यो ब्राह्मणको भवेत् Mb. 12.270. 27. -2A family of such a Brahmana. -3 N. of a country inhabited by warlike Brāhmaṇas.
ब्राह्मणता, - त्वम् The state or rank of a Brahmana. ब्राह्मणत्रा ind. Among Brahmanas.
ब्राह्मणसात् ind. In the possession of Brahma pas, as in ब्राह्मणसात् भवति धनम्.
ब्राह्मणाच्छंसिन् m. N. of a priest, the assistant of the priest called Brahman q.v.
ब्राह्मणायन: A Brahmana descended from learned and holy progenitors.
ब्राह्मी 1 The personified female energy of Brahman. -2 Sarasvati, the goddess of speech.-3Speech; संस्कारीपगतां ब्राह्मीं नानाशास्त्रोपबृंहिताम् Mb. 1. 1. 19. -4 A tale or narrative. -BA pious usage or custom, Vedic rituals ब्राहाषा संवर्तयामासू राङ्कवास्तरणावृताम् Ram.6. 111.113. -6 N. of the constellation Rohini. -7 N. of Durga. -8 A woman married according to the Brahma form of marriage. -9 The wife of a Brahmana.-10 A kind of medicinal plant; ब्राह्मी हिमा सरा तिक्ता लघुर्मेध्या च शीतला । कषाया मधुरा स्वादुपाकायुष्या रसायनी । स्वर्या स्मृतिपदा कुष्ठपाण्डमेहाश्रकासजित् ।। Bhava. ब्राह्मय ३. (-मयी f.) [ब्रह्मण इदं ष्यम् ] 1 Relating to Brahman, the creator. -2 Relating to the Supreme Spirit.-3 Relating to the Brahmanas.-मथम् 1 Wonder, astonishment (विस्मय).-2 Worship of the Brahmanas. -Comp. -मुहूर्त = ब्राह्ममुहूर्त q. v. -हुतम् hospitality to guests ; see ब्रह्मयज्ञ, ot. Ms. 3.74; ब्राह्मपहुतशब्देन मनुष्ययज्ञाख्यो ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठस्यार्चा Kull.
