That both, ha and Jagannātha were contemporaries at the court of Jaltāngir, if not those of Akbar and Shābjabān- becomes probable from a comparison of their dates. S. lived from circa 1587 to circa 1666 A, D. and must have frequented the courts of Akbar and Jahāngir between 1595 and 1627 (Jahāngir died 7, Nov. 1627). Jagannātha is placed between circa 1590 to 1665 A. D. and enjoyed the patronage of Jahāngir, Shāhjahān and Dārā Shukoh between 1920 and 1650 A. D.'. It is likely that they might have been in some contact. But it is not possible to say whether S. was familiar with R. G. The earliest Ms. of K. P. K. that is known was finished in 1647 A. D. while about R. G, we can only say that it might have been written before 1652 A. D. From the frequent references to Navīnas in both the works it seems that a new school of poetic criticism had come to be recognized as in Nyāya and so both S. and J. must have drawn upon the common ideas of Navinas.
