મૂળમાં “સને સત્તા, સર્વ પાપા, સને મૃતા, વીવા' એ પાઠ છે. જૈન સૂત્રોમાં પણ આજ કમથી અનેક ઠેકાણે એ પાઠ આવે છે, અને એ પાઠનું સંક્ષેપમાં all classes of living beings (સચેતન પ્રાણીઓના બધા વર્ગો) એવું ભાષાન્તર કરેલું છે. બુદ્ધઘષની ટીકાનું ભાષાન્તર, હૈનેંલે
ઉવાસગદસાઓ” નાં પરિશિષ્ટ નં. ૨ જાના પાન ૧૬ ઉપર નીચે પ્રમાણે આપ્યું છે –
સ સત્તા એટલે ઉંટ, બળદ, ગધેડા અને તેના બીજા બધા પશુઓ, સવે પાણી એટલે એકેન્દ્રિય, ધિન્દ્રિય આદિ ચેતનાવાળા પ્રાણીઓ, સર્વ પ્રતા એટલે અંડજ અને ગર્ભજ
છે અને સાથે વા એટલે ડાંગર, જવ, ઘઉં ઈત્યાદિ (વનસ્પતિક) છે.”

The term all sensible beings ( sabbe pana ), he uses to denote those with one sense, those with two senses and so forth. The term all generated beings ( sabbe bhuta ), he uses with reference to those that are generated or produced from an egg or from the womb.
