Here for at is another ādeśa: of si. 415. वा (= विकल्पेन) अन्यथा'-(शब्दस्य) 'अनु' (आदेशः भवति)। In Apabhraíśa the word en takes an: ādeśa (substitution) अनु, alternatively. . (1) विरहानलज्वालाकरालितः पथिकः कोऽपि निमज्य स्थितः । .. ___ अन्यथा शिशिरकाले शीतलजलात् धूमः कुतः उत्थितः ॥ “Some traveller tormented by the fire of separation must have drowned himself (in these waters); otherwise, in this wintry season how could vapour ( lit. ' smoke') arise from cold water ?". This is a very striking instance of poetic fancy.. Here 33 is an adeśa of PT. The alternative formation is अन्नह (= अन्यथा ). 416. 'कुतस्' (-शब्दस्य ) 'क' - 'कहंतिहु' - (आदेशौ भवतः) । In Apabhraíśa the word goa: has two adeśas auto ' and कहतिहु. ... (1) मम कान्तस्य गोष्ठस्थितस्य कुतः कुटीरकानि ज्वलन्ति । अथ रिपुरुधिरेण निर्वापयति अथ आत्मीयेन, न भ्रान्तिः ॥ " When my beloved is in the cowshed, how would the huts be on fire ? Either he will extinguish this with the blood of the enemies or (will put it out) by shedding his own-there should be no doubt whatever." । Here क31 is an adesa of कुतः . Another illustration : धूमु कहंतिहु उट्ठिअउ । (= धूमः कुतः उत्थितः ।) (Vide : sātra 415.1).. I It has perhaps been formed on the analogy of ततः > तउ, यतः > जउ.
