.. In Apabhraísa the ai termination (of the Infinitive of Purpose) has 4 adesas “एवं', 'अण', 'अणहं', 'अणहिं'; and- (also) as च (= ' and ') in the sutru indicates एप्पि, एप्पिणु, एवि, एविणु (i.e. the 4 adesas mentioned in the previous sūtra) - thus (in all) 8 ādeśas. - Illustrations : ..
(1) दातुं दुष्करं निजधनं, कर्तुं न तपः प्रतिभाति ।
- एवमेव सुखं भोक्तुं मनः , परं भोक्तुं न याति ॥
“One finds it difficult to donate one's wealth; and it does not strike him that he ought to practise penance. His intention is to enjoy pleasures for nothing; but he can never enjoy them (that way)”.
Here देवं, करण, भुंजणह, भुंजणहिं illustrate the four adesas (of तुम् ), namely, एवं, अण, अणहं and अणहिं. . (2) जेतुं त्यक्तुं (च) सकलां धरां, लातुं (=गृहीतुं ) तपः पालयितुम् (च) ।
विना शान्तिना तीर्थेश्वरेण कः शक्नोति भुवने अपि ॥ ___ " To conquer the whole world and (then) to give it away, to undertake penance and observe it in its entirety)-except the तीर्थंकर शान्तिनाथ who can achieve this in the whole (wide) world ? "
Here जेप्पि, चएप्पिणु, लेविणु and पालेवि are the illustrations of एप्पि, एप्पिणु, एविणु and एवि adesas (of the तुम् termination). - 442. गम् - (धातोः) एप्पिणु' - ' एप्पि' (- प्रत्यययोः) ए-कारस्य
लुक् (= लोपः) वा (भवति)। . In Apabhramśa when applied to the root th the two (तुम्-) adesus एप्पिणु and एप्पि drop their intial ए, optionally.
Illustrations : (1) गत्वा वाराणस्यां नराः अथ उजियिन्यां गत्वा ।
