________________ GENERAL EDITORIAL (of Hemacandra ) Sahitya-dar paņa, and also the SC of Vijayavarņi who was a contemporary of Ajitasena. Dr. Krishnamoorthy has already noted how Ajitasena has not only given his name but also disclosed that his ( Alamkára-) Cintamani has an alternative title, Bharata-yaśas, (II. 181-82 and the following prose passage ). This closely corresponds to a similar statement found in the Pratāpa-Rudra-Yaśobhūşaņa (PRY) of Vidyānātha ( close of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century A. D.). The parallels noted by Dr. Krishnamoorthy between AC and PRY show that Ajitasena had closely mastered the latter work also like many others dealing with poètics. The glosses are available and Dr. Krishnamoorthy has also shown that Ajitasena uses à Kannada expression in one of the Samasyās (11.118). Dr. Nemi Chandra Shastri is a versatile scholar, and his studies cover many branches of learning. He has given us here a critical edition of AC based on two Mss. and one printed edition. He has added Hindi translation of the text. He has further enriched this edition by his valuable Introduction which bears testimony to his vast study of Alamkāra literature. He has made every effort to make this edition scholarly as well as useful for students of Alamkāra literature. The General Editor feels very thankful to him for giving this edition for publication in the Mürtidevi Granthamālā. The General Editor records his sense of gratitude to Smt. Rama Jain and Shriman Sahu Shanti Prasadaji for their patronage to this Granthamālā which is publishing many rare works from Indian literature in Sanskrit, Prākrit, Apabhramsa, Kannada, Tamil etc. Thanks are due to Shri L. C. Jain for all his co-operation and help in bringing out this work in the present form. Manasa Gangotri Mysore-6 25-6 -1973 A. N.
