pool, lake, or sea. As such, it believed that well to be the universe. Its concept of a sea was only that well. Suddenly one day a sea-frog came into that well. The well-frog asked it, 'Who are you? From where have you come all of a sudden?'
"Sea-frog, 'Beloved of gods! I am a frog from the sea.' "Well-frog, 'Beloved of gods! How big is this sea?' "Sea-frog, “The sea is very large.' "The well-frog drew a line with its paw and said, Is it this big?' “Sea-frog, 'No, much bigger than this.'
"The well-frog then jumped a little distance from the eastern side of the well and asked, 'Is it this big?'
"Sea-frog, 'No, much bigger than this.'
"The well-frog continued to ask the same question again and again after increasing the distance a little every time. And every time he got the same answer from the sea-frog.
सूत्र १११. “एवामेव तुम पि जियसत्तू ! अन्नेसिं बहूणं राईसर जाव सत्यवाहपभिईणं भज्जं वा भगिणिं वा धूयं वा सुण्हं वा अपासमाणे जाणेसि-जारिसए मम चेव णं ओरोहे तारिसए णो अण्णस्स। तं एवं खलु जियसत्तु ! मिहिलाए नयरीए कुंभगस्स धूआ पभावईए अत्तया मल्ली नामं विदेहवर-रायकण्णा रूवेण य जोव्वणेण जाव नो खलु अण्णा काइ देवकन्ना वा जारिसिया मल्ली। विदेहरायवरकण्णाए छिण्णस्स वि पायंगुट्टगस्स इमे तवोरोहे सयसहस्सइमं पि कलं न अग्घइ" त्ति कटु जामेव दिसं पाउब्भूया तामेव दिसं पडिगया।
सूत्र १११. “इसी तरह हे जितशत्रु ! तुमने अन्य राजा आदि गणमान्य व्यक्तियों की पत्नी, बहन, अथवा पुत्र-वधू देखी नहीं हैं। इस कारण तुम समझते हो कि तुम्हारे अन्तःपुर जैसा कोई अन्य नहीं है। हे जितशत्रु ! मिथिला नगरी की राजकुमारी मल्ली जैसी अनिंद्य सुंदरी सारे त्रिभुवन में नहीं है। विदेह राजकुमारी के पैर की अंगुली के लाखवें अंश के वरावर भी नहीं है तुम्हारा यह अन्तःपुर।'' ये वचन कहकर चोक्खा वहाँ से अपने स्थान को प्रस्थान कर गई।
