________________ १४४ the birth of these seven greatmen and the birth ceremonies, performed by the gods. The respective stories proceed simultaneously in remaining cantos. The greatness of Meghavijaya, as a poet, is sufficiently proved by this work. He has shown adeptness in using figures of speech, both Śabdalankara and Arthālankära. Some of the figures of speech used in this work are Upamā, Rūpaka, Utprekṣā, Atiśayokti, Dipaka, Dṛṣṭānta, Nidarśana, Arthāntaranyāsa, Kāvyalinga, Pariṣankhyā, Atadguṇa, Udatta etc, He has applied about 14 metres in this work viz. Upajāti, Indravajrā, Indravanśā, Vanśastha, Mālinī, Sragdharā, Śardūlavikrījita, Vasantatilakā, Hariņi, Anustubh, Swāgatā, Śikhariņi, Drutavilambita etc. The Santa (Tranquility) is the main sentiment of this sandhanakavya. This work possesses the required salient features of an epic. Meghavijaya was a versatile poet and a great number of works, ascribed to him, are testimony to his genius. He wrote masterpieces on grammar, astronomy, logic etc. branches of learing. Meghavijaya is supposed to he born approximately between 1628-1633 AD. and lived up to 1708 AD. His tenure of creativity in terms of composing works, corresponds to 1652 AD to 1708 AD. The list of his works include epicsDigvijayamahākāvya (1653 AD), Laghutriṣaṣṭiśalākā-puruṣacarita, Saptasandhānamahākñya, Bhaviṣya-dattacarita, Pañcākhyāna, Pañcamikathā, Samasyāpūrti, Kāvya-Meghadūtasamayalekhaḥ, Kirātasamasyālekh, Śāntināthacarita, Devānandamahākāvya, Grammar- Candraprabhā also known as Haimakaumudi, Haimaśabdacandrikā, Haimasabdaprakriya (commentaries on Siddhahaimabdānuśāsana of Hemacandra. Philosophical-- Maniparīkṣā, Yuktiprabodhanāṭaka and Dharmamanjūṣā. Astrological- Varṣaprabodha, Praśnasundari, Janmapatriya-paddhati. Ramala-śāstra, Hastasñjīvana, Vīśāyantravidhi (Arjunapatākā), Spiritual-- Arhadgītā, Brahmabodha and Mātṛkāprasada Historical-- Śrirāvaṇa-pārśanāthastotra, Pañcatirtha-stuti (sațika), Caturvińśatijinastava, Ādijinastotra, Devaprabhostavanāvacuri, Śabdacandrika, Works in Gujarati-- Kumatirākaraṇana Hundistavana, Pārśva nāmamālāstavana, Vijayadevanirvāṇasvādhūāya, Vijayaratnasūrisvādhyāya, Kṛpāvijaya-nirvāṇarāsa, Maksīpārśvastavana, etc. Pub.
