He traced out the history of Gwalior right from stone age to modern times. The importance of the site could be well understood through this book. Dr. Shastri has rendered a real service to Jaina art and archictecture by evaluting the rock shelters of the Fortress of Gwalior. Joshi, Dayanand Bhargava, Bhagchandra Jain Bhaskar and Dr. Ramjee Singh. The volume is wirthwhile for both libraries and individual. The intellectual development and the works of the German Indologist Dr. Charlotte Krause have been presented in the previous volume of this journal by Mrs. L. These are reprinted in the book under review (p. xxv-xxvii), the publication of which is largely due to the efforts of H.M. Banthia, the enlightened Jaina layman; who set his heart upon making his compatriots and others better acquainted with the work of European scholars interested in his religion.
