________________ "Don't let him go near Sadhus and Saints".. Amar started going to school, and he was in the 5th Grade, just 11 years old, when an interesting incident took place. His father took him to the local barber for a haircut. While the barber was cutting his hair, he stopped suddenly and started staring at something on the boy's head. Shri Motiram Ji told him not to waste time but to finish cutting his hair quickly as he had another appointment. The barber replied in a grave tone that he had seen something which troubled him and wanted to warn Shri Motiram Ji not to let the boy go near any ascetic or monk. It appeared to him, from the signs that he saw on the boy's head, that if the child were to be in the company of monks, he would himself leave home and become a monk. His father found this very hard to believe so he dismissed the incident from his mind and took the boy home with him. The barber's words however proved to be prophetic. Finding his Guru Amar's father was a cloth merchant. He ran a flourishing textile business near the Ghantaghar in the Subzi Mandi area of old Delhi. One of his friends was a Jain gentleman who had a shop nearby. The Jain gentleman's son and Amar studied in the same class and had their holidays at the same time. One day the young Jain boy asked Amar if he would like to spend the holidays with them. He and his family were planning to go out of town. Amar asked his father if he could go with them and his father agreed because he knew the family well. So Amar and the Jain family set off together for their much anticipated trip. They went from Delhi to a place called Kandla and stopped at a Jain retreat. shantidoot | messenger Jain Education International 12 For Private & Personal Use Only of peace www.jainelibrary.orgPage Navigation
