________________ CHICT-HTHTHT :: 467 ethics, which improve the quality of life, by shunning the temptations of indulgence bhoga with the practice of yoga, which is communion with the divinity already in man. This is best done by leading a selfless pure life of self-discipline, freed from the hankerings of worldly desires. This is the ultimate message of Mookmati. The creative intellect of Acharya has given us a magnificient creative poem. A brief review of the poems will enlighten us with the noble thoughts and emotions embodied in the epic. The four cantos of the book serve as path-finders for the ultimate release or liberation. In the first Canto, the dominent note is Integration and not dissipation, as revealed in the dialogue between the river and the earth, between mud and the potter. In the course of the discussion Acharya gives us etymological meanings of many words through the split vyutpatti- derivation of the samas-compounds and points out to the subtle nuances in simple words, say the meaning of Kumbhakar (Pottor). Ku-means earth, Bha-stands for bhagya or fate, hence Kumbhakar is one who is not only fortunate, but also the creator of Fortune or Destiny is the Potter, Kumbhakar. Similarly T (gada) means diseases and ET (ha) means the remover, therefore TEET which commonly means donkey, etymologically it means the remover of diseases. Besides, these word-nuances, we have rich thoughts permeating this canto. Compassion indeed/Is the spontaneous expression of true Knowledge, the Science of life. "aurant ETT EN/57a-fasta 77/4744 fara ei" (9.30) Play of passions/Is delusion,/Progress of compassion/Is liberation. "ahal at facire/HE È,/24 at farh/HAI” (q.30) Attachments give rise to violence./And In attachment-free-state alone, Non-violence grows, Gathers strength. "ufet FEHT | #91f //farfy-TM # et affert ,/TT-9697987,/**** gram I” (q.EX) Similarly, in an interesting dialogue between soil and the fish, Vidyasagarji gives a crisp and aphoristic definition of Satyuga and Kaliyuga . The relentless search for truth alone Is satyuga, my son./And ... To look upon truth as falsehood Is kaliyuga, my son.
