________________ 201 જૈનયુગ . 13 March 1927. KANAIYALAL M. MUNSHI, ESQR. B. A. LL. B. Sir, We beg to draw your immediate attention to the fact that the feelings of the Jain Community are very much offended by certain objectionable chapters, passages and remarks contained in your various writings published by you from time to time. Without making an attempt to give an exhaustive list of such chapters, passages and remarks we draw your attention to the following chapters and passages in your books which are considered by our Community as specially objectionable. Gujrat No Nath www Patan Ni Prabhuta ... Chapters 7, 12, 21, 29, 32, and 41. Chapters 13, 14 and 18. pt. 1. ... Chapter 7 pt. 2. ... Chapter 10 pt. 3. Gujrat na Jyotirdharo ... Remarks in respect of Shri Hemachandracharya. These chapters and other passages in your writings lead the Jain Community to believe that there is an attempt on your part deliberate or otherwise to lower the Jains, Jainism and Jain preceptors in the eyes of the public and to show historical Jain characters in false light. Your deline. ation of Shri Hemchandracharya Suri in some of these writings have evoked the greatest resentment amongst the Jains. They also think that there is absolutely no ક્ષેત્ર ૧૯૮૩ wrrant or justification for your delineation of so imaginary a character as Anandsuri. The effect is to create disgust towards Jain Sadhus when history does not show a single instance of a Jain Sidhu of the type of Anandsuri. Criticism and protest were made in different quarters immediately on publication of your such offensive writings. It seems, however, that in spite of certain attempts made by common friends and well wishers you have done nothing till now to right the wrong done to the Jains. The matter has, therefore, been referred to our Conference and a Committee has been appointed. The said Committee has held several meetings and has prepared its report. Before the said report is published and action taken on it the Committee has asked us to write to you to give you an opportunity to express your regret for what you have written and to give us an undertaking to cease publishing and circulating literature offending the feelings of our Community. We personally do not think that once you are made aware of the extent to which the feelings of the Jains have been wounded by your such writings, you are likely to persist in the attitude adopted by you till now. This is but to give you a final opportunity to make amends. We have to request you to let us have your reply before Tuesday the 15th inst., to enable us to place the matter before our Committee which is going to meet on that day to consider this question.
