The image inscriptions under study are usually dated in the Vikrama Era. The date generally contains the year, the month, the tithi and the week-day. Sometimes the tithi and/or the week-day are missing. From the examination of these dates, it is found that a majority of these dates tally according to the Kārttikādi Amānta system of years and months.
The language of these image inscriptions is Sanskrit with colloquial touch. The script is Nāgari prevalent during 13th to 16th cent. A. D.
Among the Jains, the contribution of Jina-bimba was regarded meritorious Its main object was the spiritual bliss of oneself or one's relatives. Sometimes the donors also contributed the images of the great Sūris.
We owe our sincere thanks to the authorities of Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, for facilitating our intensive study of the Jain Image Inscriptions of Ahmadabad.
