________________ 8. Jain Dharma de Itihasik Mahapurakh (Historical personalities of Jainism) is a collection of stores taken from scriptures. These stores with moral lessons attached to them are a compulsory reading for the youth. 9. Anjane Rishte, in Hindi, is a perceptive study of dreams reverse etc. had by Purushottam Jain. The author makes the work readable and interesting by relating these to the fundamental principles of Jainism. The book has been very well received by the Hindi world. The due has rendered invaluable service by translating into Punjabi some of their scriptures and a few other books on Jaina literature and Philosophy. It is for the first time that the Jain scriptures have become available in Punjabi. 1. Bhagwan Mahavira : Siddhant te Updesh : It is the Punjabi translation of Upadhyay Amar Muni's book in Hindi. It is a very useful handbook on Jain literature and philosophy. 2. Sri Uttaradhyayan Sutra : One of the main four sutras, is send to contain essence of Jainism-as Dhammapada is in Buddhism, Gita in Hinduism and Japuji in Sikkhism. It comprises detailed information on Jain history, philosophy, tradition, tatva etc. Although several excess of this have been available in Sanskrit and Prakrit and translation in several European languages. It is the first translation-cum-commentary in Punjabi. Besides, the Punjabi edition also makes useful comparisons with scriptures from other traditions. 3. Sri Sutra-Kritang Sutra, the second of the main 11 angs is in two volumes and contains denunciation by Lord Mahavira of the contemporary 363 traditions. The Punjabi translation-cumcommentary makes an analytical study of several schools of philosophy. 4-9. Nirayavalika Sutra comprises five subordinate angs. It narrates the history of Vaishali including the war between King Shrenik, King Konik and their brothers. The remaining up-angs give details about the lives of some of the Tirthankaras as well as about the inition ceremonies of several Jain monks (Sadhus) and nuns (Sadhvis). These latter are still unpublished. 10. Saman Sutra, a common volume prepared jointly by all the four sects of Jainas at the time of the 25th Centenary Nirvan Celebrations of Lord Mahavira. The Punjabi translation by these young scholars is of paramount value. 11. Upasak Dushang Sutra is the fifth of the 11 angs is comprises information in 10 devotees who observe the twelve fasts of the laity. These devotees come from different walks of life in society such as peasant, trader, all of whom are quite affluent. 12. Giata Dharma-kathang is a narrative and gives useful historical information about Mallinath, the only woman Tirthankar. It is under print. 13. Nirayavalika, a collection of five books on up-angs, is a translation in Punjabi by Acharya Shri Atma Ram Ji Maharaj, a renowned savant of Jainism, Sadhvi Swarn Kanta Ji was the Chief Editor, with Ravinder Jain and Purushottam Jain assisting her in the editorial talk. 14. Bir Thui, a rendering in Punjabi in the form of an independent book of a chapter from the Sutra-Kritang Sutra. The text, believed to the oldest form of poetry, is a enlogy (Thui) of Lord Mahavira (Bir). It is an excellent specimen of the poet's prosodic art. 15.
