________________ ( 16 ) 8. Gotra determines the birth of a soul in a higher or lower social status. These karmas constitute the karmic body which is associated with the soul throughout its career of transmigration producing its appropriate results till it is finally cast away and destroyed when the soul attains perfection or Moksha. God and Moksha When the soul is free from all karmas it becomes pure and attains full divinity or Godhood. He becomes Paramatma devoid of all blemishes and free from birth and death. He has infinite knowledge, infinite percep tion, infinite power and infinite bliss. He can not be perceived by the senses and He is said to reside at the summit of the Universe. This dogmatical assertion is strengthened by the way in which the people talk of God They always refer to Him as, "One who is above" pointing to the sky. He has nothing to do with the world and He is only an Ideal for the other jivas to aspire to He is also called by the name of Siddha, one who has accomplished Attainment of the soul's perfection is the attainment of Moksha. This is the conception of God or Paramatma according to Jainism. Though Jainism and Shankara agree in maintaining the ultimate identity of Jivatma and Paramatma, yet the Jaina ideal of Parmatma with infinite qurahties will be
