Pravarasēna (I), the Samrät and the son (i.e., & descendant) of Hāriti, (who was) of the Vrishņivsiddha götra and who performed Agnishtöma, Àptöryāma, Vājapēya, Jyotishtöma, Brihaspatisava, Sädyaskrs and four Advamēdhas
(LI. 5—7) The Ajnapti' and soldiers who are employed by us in all departments as well as other touring (officials) of noble birth in the village) Akäsapadda (which is situated) near Tākālakkhoppaka on the northern road from Nândikada should be caused to be addressed (as follows) —
(Ll. 7-19) For Our victory (in war), for the increase of (Our) life and power, for invoking blessings and peace (for U8) and for religious merit in this and the next world, We have now granted this village to the following members of the Atharvanika charana® in this village as a new gift which is to be enjoyed as long as the moon and the sun will endure, (in the following proportion, viz.,) three parts, (in figure) 3, (of it) to these following) Brāhmaṇas---half (a share)' (being given) to Jivujja (Jivärya) of the Bhālandāyana götra, to Ruddajja (Rudrārya) of the Kapiñjala göra, to Bhättidevajja (Bhartsidēvārya) of the Srāvishthāyana götra, to Deaja (Dēvārya) of the Kausika götra, to Veņhujja (Vishnvārya) of the Kausika götra, to Vidhijja (Vidhyarya) of the Kaubika götra, to Pituja (Pitryärya) of the Paippalādi götra, to Chandaja (Chandrarya) of the Bhālandayana götra, (and) to Jetthaja (Jyēshtharya) of the Kausika götra; (and) two shares (being given) to Buddhaja (Buddhārya) of the Bhālandāyana götra, to Bhāddilajja (Bhadrilārya) of the Kausika götra, to Sivajja (Sivārya) of the Kausika götra, (and) to Harinnaja (Hiranyārya) of the Kausika götra—and the fourth part, (in figure) 1, to Revatija (Rēvatyärya) of the Kausika götra.
(Ll. 19-24) And we grant the following exemptions from restrictions for it (which are) incident to & village belonging to Brāhmaṇas proficient in the four Vēdas, as approved by the former kings, viz., it is to be exempt from the entrance of) the District Police ;8 it is to be exempt from the purchase and digging of salt ; it is to be exempt from the presents of gold and grain; it does not entitle (the State) to (the royalties on) flowers and milk, (dnd) to the customary cows
Hariti was a sage from whom the Kadambas and the Chalukyas also traced their descent. See, e.g., the Tálagunda inscription of Käkusthavarman, above, Vol VIII, p. 31 and the Mahakūta inscription of Mangalesa, Ind. Ant., Vol. XIX, p. 16.
This record mentions Jyotishtöma in place of Ukthya, Shodasin and Atirätra which are mentioned in ot er Vakataka records among the sacrifices performed by Pravarasena I.
Anatti (Sanskrit, Ajñapti) is mentioned at the close of many records and corresponds to the Drütaka who also figures in other inscriptions in the same capacity. He was entrusted with the execution of the royal order.
The usual expression in other Vakataka records is Sarv-adhyakaha-niyoga-niyuktah who are employed by the order of the General Superintendent.'
In other Vikataka records vaijayike qualifies dharma-sthana and the whole expression means at our victorious place of religious worship'. The Dootek stone inscription mentions a dharma-sthana of the Våkataka king Rudrasēna I. . That is, of the Atharvavöda. .
