________________ E RËFACE We have great pleasure in publishing the second part of Ratnaprabha Sūri's Ratnākarāyatārikā, a commentary on Vādi Devasüri's (A. D. 10861169) Pramāṇanayatattvāloka with two Sanskrit super-commentaries and Gujarati translation. This translation is lucid and will be very helpful to the students of Indian Logic to understand this tough text of Logic. The description of the materials used in preparing this edition is fully given in the preface to the first part. Again, therein one finds a succinct account of Vadi Devasūri, Ratnaprabhasūri, Āc. Rajasekhara and Pt. Jñānacandra-the authors of Pramāṇanayatattväloka, Ratnākaravatärikā, Pañjikā apd Tippaņa respectively. The study of Ratnākarāvatārikā is very useful to those who want to understand the problems of Indian Logic. It is a salient feature of the Jaina philosophical works that they give a faithful account of the doctrines of other schools. So, by studying them we can have the true picture of the different philosophical thought currents. • We are really grateful to Muni Shri Malayavijayaji who has lucidly translated the tough Sanskrit text into Gujarati. We acknowledge our indebtedness to Late Pt. Hargovindas and Pt. Bechardas whose excellent edition of Ratnākarāvatārikā is used by us as a model text. Our thanks are also due to the publishers of the Yashovijaya Jain Granthamāla, Varanasi as we have utilised their two editions of Ratnākarávatārikā - one giving the complete text of Ratnākatavatärikā and other giving only the two chapters with Pañjikā and Tippaņa. The third part is in press and will be published very soon. With the end of the third part this work will be complete. In the introduction to the tbird part we intend to give a study and an estimate of the Ratnakarāyatärikā. We hope that this publication will be of very great value for the students of Indian Logic.
