Last but not least, I must express my heartfelt obligation to His Highness Mahārājādhirāj Rāja Rājeshwara Sawāi Shri Tukõji Rão Holkar Bahādur, Chief of the Native State of Indore in Central India. for his gracious permission to dedicate the book to him. In conclusion, I must confess that the book is a very humble attempt to give a brief but accurate and authoritative sketch of Jainism. I am convinced that in its spirit and essential doctrines Jainism has that in it which satisfies the deepest and the most varied wants-mental
