________________ PUBLISHER'S NOTE "Adhyatam Pada Parijat” is a stream of soothing spiritual and musical compositions which strikes the right chords of one's heart and dissolves the impurities of soul lifting it to greater heights. Jain Hindi poets have been considerably influenced by the philosophical thoughts and spiritual writings of the great Jain guru's like Kund Kund, Battaker, Kartikeya and others; these writings mostly in Saurseni Prakrit language lie underneath the devotional songs/poems written in the most commonly used form of Hindi of those times. These devotional songs, about 600 of them presented in this book, became popular among the rich and the poor alike. These pieces of devotion also contributed to a continuous refinement and enrichment of Hindi which ultimately led to its recognition as the National language of free India. These composers cum singers wandered from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Assam to Rajasthan, singing their musical compositions and contributed to the unity and integrity of India. Late Shri Dr. Kanchedilal Jain had collected these devotional poems and songs at the request of late Pandit Phoolchandra Shastri; Shri Tarachand Jain assisted him in all possible ways. Although Panditji and Dr. Kanchedilalji, both are not with us today, we are extremely grateful to both of them for the initiative. We are also grateful to Shri Tarachandji for rendering selfless service in preparing the manuscript. Sudden and tragic demise of Dr. Kanchedilal ji deprived us of his critical and comparative Introduction which he proposed to write. However, it is a matter of great satisfaction that, on our special request, the noted Hindi scholar Dr. (Smt.) Vidyavati Jain, Head, Hindi Department, M.M.Women's College (Vir Kunwar Singh University), Aara (Bihar), has filled up this gap. Her preface to the book and also the index have certainly enhanced the importance of the book. Shri Ganesh Varni Dig. Jain Institute is grateful to her for the valuable contribution.
