"The temple dedicated to Ajitanātha at Taianga is said to have been built during the reign of the Solankı king Kumārapāla (A.D 1143-1172) Though temple seems to have been restored and extended several times, it has retained the original form and to a great extent the sculptural wealth over the external walls and internally in Gridhamandupa etc as well
From the account given in the Kumārapāla-prati hodha' (V S. 1241) it seems that Kumārapāla ordered his minister (Dandanāyaka) Abhaya, the son of Yaśodeva, to construct this temple 69 Prabhāvaka Carita', (V S. 1334) also narrates about the construction of this temple by Kumārapāla $8
Te (sıc] arched-pıllar (kirtistambha) erected it small cell (devakulıkā) on the left of the main fortified entrance on the east, contains an epigraphical reference, dated VS 1230 (only two years after the demise of king Kumārapāla), wherein the name of the aforementioned minister Abhaya, who was trusted by the king with the construction work of the Ajitanātha temple [occurs] It reads like this:
स. १२३० वर्षे फागण वदि ३ ववेग मे अमल(भये)न ।' Though no details as to construction of the temple is given here, it definitely commemorates the name of Abhaya, under whose direction the temple was erected and probably the date of completion of the work, in memory of which he caused to erect this kirtistambha (memorial pillar)' 57 Somaprabhasari, Kumārpala-Pratıbodha', Aryakhaputacharya
