________________ NOTES 1. The life of Hemacandra forms the XXII and last Sriga of the Purvarṣicaritrarohanagiri or Prabhavakacaritra, and a few notes about him also occur in the XXI Sriga. This work, a continuation of Hemacandra's Paris istaparvan to the Trigaglisalakpurugasaritra, was compiled by Prabh candrasiri, Candraprabha's successor, and was corrected by Pradyumnasiri, the pupil of Kanakaprabhasüri, who on his part was a pupil of the grammarian Devananda. Verse 16 of the Introduction is as follows: श्रीदेवानन्दशैक्षश्रीकनकप्रभशिष्यराट् । श्रीप्रद्युम्नप्रभुर्जीयाइन्थस्यास्य विशुद्धिकृत् ॥ "Victory to the lord Sri Pradyumna who completely purified this work (from errors)-ho, the king among the pupils of Sri Kanakaprabha, the pupil of Sri Devananda!" Quite the same has been said in the verses which stand at the end of each of the Srigas. At the end of the XXII S'rniga, the following verse occurs: श्रीचंद्रप्रभसूरिपट्टसरसीहंसप्रभः श्रीप्रभा चंद्रः सूरिरनेन चेतसि कृते श्रीरामलक्ष्मीभुवा । afteåffaferingerfith shitwig: mm(shtitarizprat:] श्रीमथुनमुनींना विशदितः शृंगो द्विकद्विप्रम [:] ॥ "On the throne of S'rt Candraprabhasüri (there sits), like a swan in a lake, Sari Prabhcandra. In the biography of the well-known Reis of old-a biography which is comparable to the Rohana mountain-concieved by this (Prabhacandra) son of S'ri Rama and Laksmi, (thus ends) the twenty second peak (8'yniga) in the form of biographical sketch of Sri Hemscandra, which is purified by S'ri-Pradyumna, the moon among the monks." Jain Education International Several other verses, too, at the end of Srrigas I, V, VII, XI, XIII, XV, XVII, XIX and XXI are dedicated to the praise of Pradyumna. The third from the last of these is important, as it contains a statement which enables us to determine Pradyumna's time at least approximately. This verse says: श्रीदेवानंदसूरिर्दिशतु मुदमसौ लक्षणाद्येन हैमादुजुस्याप्राज्ञहेतोर्विहितमभिनवं सिद्ध सारस्वताख्य [] । For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
