તો તે જરૂર હાથ ધોશે; પણ મહારી આશા જુઠ્ઠી પડી છે.માનને લોભ એને અને એના દ્વારા ભોળા સમાજને અવનતિ તરફ ખેંચી રહ્યો છે. અરે માનનું ભૂત શું શું અનર્થ નથી નીપજાવતું ? સુરેન્દ્રનાથ બેરનજી જેવા વૃદ્ધ, વિદ્વાન અને એક વખત દેશના માનીતા નાયકે પણ લોકમાન્ય તિલકના સ્વર્ગવાસ પ્રસંગે (કે હારે તમામ શહેરોએ હડતાલ પાડી હતી ) પિતાની કોલેજના પ્રિન્સીપાલને લખ્યું હતું કે કોલેજ બંધ રાખવી નહિ લોકપ્રિયતા ગુમાવ્યા પછી લોકનાયકને યોકોના માનીતા બનનાર તરફ દેષ થાય છે એ સ્વાભાવિક છે. પણ તેથી પિતે વધારે ઉઘાડા પડે છે અને રહીસાડી લોકપ્રિયતા પણ ગુમાવી બેસે છે. બ્રહ્મચારીની બાબતમાં તે એટલું જ કહીશ કે હવે તે “વિનાશકાળે વિપરીત બુદ્ધિ” એ કહેવતને ચરિતાર્થ કરે છે; અને ઝાઝું થાય છે તે થોડા માટે જ છે. ----
