हस्तो मूलं श्रवणः पुनर्वसुर्मृगशिरास्तथा पुष्यः ।

Here it may be pointed out that from the nature of the topics, one can expect these verses in our Ratnakośa, but in fact we do not find them in any one of our mss This implies that there may be other versions of the Ratnakośa which might have contained these verses. But as the verses mentioned by Hemadri do not occur in our text, his reference to Ratnakosa cannot help us to settle the date of our Ratnakosa.
So the only thing that we can say is that it is older than our oldest Ms. D which appears to belong to the 15th cent. A. D. The names mentioned in the 'Rajavamsas' vary so much that they cannot help us in settling the earlier limit of the age.
The work may be supposed to belong to an age later than the 10th cent. A., D.
