________________ सूरीश्वर और सम्राट् । ( The History of the Great Moghuls ) के प्रथम मागके ३११ वें पेजमें जो उद्धार निकले हैं उनको उद्धृतकर, इस प्रकरणके साथ ही इस ग्रंथको भी हम समाप्त करेंगे । वह लिखता है,-- " That each persons should be taxed according to his ability, that there should be shown no exemption or favour as regards this, that equal justice should be meted out and external foes kept at bay, that cvery man should be at liberty to believe what he pleases without any interference by the State with his conscience; Such are the principles upon which the British Government in India rests, and such are its real boast and strength. But all these principles were those of Akbar, and to him remains the undying glory of having been the first in Hindustan to put them into practice. These rules now underlie all modern Western States, but for even of such States can boast that these priciples are as thoroughly carried out by them in this the twentieth century, as they were by Akbar himself more than three hundred years ago. Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
