તીર્થકરોની મૂર્તિ પ્રતિષ્ઠા અંગે જૈન સમાજમાં ઉચ્ચ ભાવના કેળવાયેલી છે. મંદિરની જેમ મૂર્તિ-પ્રતિષ્ઠા માટે પણ શ્રેષ્ઠીઓ પોતાના પુણ્યજનો માટે અઢળક ધન વાપરતા, જેનાં પ્રમાણો મૂર્તિ પર લખેલા લેખોને આધારે મળી શકે છે. તે સાથે જે તે મૂર્તિ-પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરાવનાર શ્રેષ્ઠીના કુટુંબની વિગતો, ગચ્છની વિગત, ગચ્છાધિપતિની
પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે. આ પ્રકારની પ્રવૃત્તિ પ્રાચીન કાલથી અત્યાર સુધી ચાલુ રહેલી જોવા મળે છે, જેમાં અત્રે મહાવીર સ્વામીની કેટલીક મૂર્તિઓ કોતરાયેલા અભિલેખો વિશે વિગતો આપી છે.
ए० ॥ सं १२५३ आषाढ शुदि ३ सोमे शोके...श्री भावदेवाचार्य गच्छे पिष्योटकाद्धा....ने श्रे. धणदेवपुत्र...जूसे पंप्रिणपुत्र बीलहणकुदारासहितेन महावीरबिंबं कारितं प्रतिष्ठि(ष्ठि)तं श्रीजिनसूरिभिः । રાયપુર વિસ્તારમાં કામેશ્વરની પોળમાં સંભવનાથ સ્વામી દેરાસરમાં વિ.સં. ૧૨૫૩માં અષાઢ સુદિ ૩ના દિવસે સોમવારે (૨૩ જૂન ઈ.સ. ૧૧૯૭માં) મહાવીર સ્વામીની પ્રતિમાની પ્રતિષ્ઠા જિનપ્રભસૂરિએ કરી હતી. This Ekatirthi bronze image of Mahaviraswami is preserved in the temple of Sambhavnath in Kameshwar Pole in the Raipur area. It was installed in V.S. 1253. Asadha. sudi.3. Soma (i.e. Mon., 23 June, 1197, A.D.) This image was made by the sons and grandsons of Dhanadeo.
(૨) ॥ संवत १३६८ वर्षे...वदि ८ सोमे श्री श्रीमाल ज्ञातीय श्रे. नागपालभार्या जासलश्रेयार्थे पुत्र मालाकेन बिंब श्रीवीरसिंहसूरीणामुपदेशेन श्री महावीर....।। ડોસીવાડાની પોળમાં સીમંધર સ્વામીના દેરાસરમાં શ્રીમાલ જ્ઞાતિની શ્રેષ્ઠી નાગપાલની પત્ની જેસલે વિ.સં. ૧૩૬૮ (ઈ.સ. ૧૩૧૧-૧૨) ૨૯, મે સોમવારે મહાવીર સ્વામીનું બિંબ ભરાવ્યું. This Ekatirhi bronze image with parikar is preserved in the upper sanctuary of Simandharaswami temple in Indrakot of Doshivada's Pole. This icon of Mahaviraswami was made by Malaka with the precept of Virasimhasuri for the bliss of Jasala, wife of Shre. Nagapala of Srimala caste in V. S. 1368 (ie. 1311-12 A.D.) The inscription contains the fortnight, the day and the week-day, but the name of the month is not mentioned. The week-day tallies with the given day in the month of Jyestha. In that case the date would correspond to Monday. 29. May 1312 A.D.
