________________ STUUT Sādhaka, Sādhanā & Sādhya Priya Jain day. Yoga and Sadhanā, these two terms have been an inseparable part of Indian conscious, culture and civilization. They are the backbone of Indian spirituality and culture. In the wake of the industrialization of the entire globe and the industrial and technological development that has taken place in India and abroad, India stands apart from other countries and this is because of the great treasure of Yoga and Sadhanā that it has inherited. The Indian mass is toiling hard to live upto this great tradition amidst all adversaries and unprosperous circumstances like terrorism, communalism, etc. that it is facing today. It is very easy to discourse upon, lecture on and speak about Yoga and Sādhanā, but only when one practices the same, he can experience and comprehend it in reality, but he too shall be unable to express it in totality as it is a subject of experience unlike science which experiences with truth. The striking difference between science of matter and science of Yoga and Sadhanā is that in the Sadhanā of the Science of Matter only foreign and unnatural karmic matter are accomplished, whereas in the latter, the self is the accomplisher (Sādhaka), the accomplished (Sādhya) and the accomplishment (Sadhanā). In the first part of my paper I shall define three terms viz. Sadhaka. Sādhanā & Sadhya, and after that elaborate Sādhana in the context of Jaina spirituality, finally I shall conclude with the significance of Sādhanā in modern times.
