[ Maithunadūṣaṇāṣṭakam ]
rāgādeva niyogena maithunaṁ jāyate yataḥ. tataḥ katham na doṣo'tra yena śāstre niṣidhyate.
As sexual carnality originates, inevitably from the attachment, so how it is not sinful, hence prohibited in
canons.
dharmarthaṁ putrakāmasya svadāreṣvadhikāriṇaḥ. ṛtukāle vidhänena yatsyaddoșo na tatra cet.
(One may say ) In that marital intercourse of a house-holder with his own wife, desiring son for virtuous cause, after menstrual discharge, there is no sin.
nāpavādikakalpatvānnaikāntenetyasangataṁ.
vedam hyadhitya snāyādyadadhītyaiveti śāsitaṁ.
(One desiring sexual intercourse with wife) should bathe after positively reciting Vedas. Here, after reciting (not without reciting) has been preached. Being an exceptional conduct, calling it absolutely sinless, is not proper.
