________________ 3 69/2, 3 -A, 2016 Mystical Powers in Jainism - Dr. Samani Aagm Prajna Mysticism is a word of very uncertain connotation. Though it is defined as "Belief in union with the divine nature by means of ecstatic contemplation, and in the power of spiritual access to domains of knowledge closed off to ordinary thought. Also applied derogatorily to theores that assume occult qualities or agenceis of which no empriical or rational account can be offered." When we analyzed the difinition we find the most focusting point in the definition of mysticism that- "The incidents or events where no empirical or rational accounts can be offered."In every religion either it is Vedic or Jainism, Buddhism or Christianity or Islamic-some factors related to mstical experiences and mystical powers are found, where no rational explanations can be given still they cannot be denied. Hence, it would be better to make it clear that mystical power and magic, both are not one. There are some poeres, which are acquired from god directly or be some spiritual practices at the purification of soul and that which cannot be accomplished by highest intellect and optimum hard work. Those powers are mystical powers. Sometimes it may happen that the upholder of such mystical powers, misuse it or shows miracle through it. If so, then as a result he is liable for atonement or due to this he may loose that power (Labdhi) too. On the other hand, magic are the skills, developed though handsome practices. Those Practices re not necessarily spiritual.
