________________ express request of the poet himself, by his contemporary Shri Sāntyācārya in order to remove the contradictions, if any with the accepted tenets of Jainism. The oldest available Palm-leaf ms. (dated V. Sam. 1255, i.e., 1199 A.D.)P Ms.--of the TM was procured by Muni Shri Punyavijayaji sometime in the first decade of the current century, after the publication of the first edition of the N. S. Press. Somehow it could not be availed of by the editors of the TM(N); they seem to have utilized a rather recent copy of a fourteenth century paper manuscript, which in its turn was a copy of the above-mentioned Ms, of Late Shri Punyavijayaji (the P. Ms.) II. The Three Textual Lacunae On comparision with the textual readings of the P Ms., 6 the following three important passages are found missing due to the corresponding lacunae in the Ms. utilized by the editor thereof in the printed text of the TM(N) : (1) TM(N), p. 52: In the line 23, after the following passage should be addedदक्षिणजानुपर्वणा सगर्वमास्फालितमणिकुट्टिमः, शिर:कपालप्रपलायनशङ्कयेव वामकरपल्लवेन Mafsataaseu IT', a marca 1997. and the last compound ending with the word ' no' should be combined with the compound ogHVEIG foto and so on, deleting the intervening word 'arqui'. It may be noted that this lacuna has been filled by the editors of the TM (P); but the readings are slightly defective in that the text of the TM reads. : ० पलायन' insted of 'प्रपलायन' and 'मजकलापर' instead of 'मघजकलापर' the case of the while the Paraga commentary follows the defective reading in first, but the correct one in the case of the second word.? (2) TM(N), p.261 : After the end of the sentence with the word in line 18, the following four verses should be added । 6, I take here the opportunity to put on record my sense of profound gratitude to Muni Shri Punyavujayaji who was kind enough to lend me his PMs, in original for my studies concerning the critical text of the TM, 7.
