mentioned therein on the other hand, seem to have been introduced leter on by Jnanakalsa Muni who is recorded to have used the Ms. for teaching the work to Muni Merunandana in the year V. Sam. 1431.12 The susequent Mss. copied from this one as the Adaria, keep in tact the 'Sa' and 'Sa" śrtis and some of the corrections and additions,
His confounding of these two artis is the result of his accuracy and faithfulness his Adarga-prati, as is evidenced from the parallel readings of the J Ms., the scribe where of is undoubtedly influenced by his own shortcoming in view of the then actually current pronunciation of words like 'Sakala', 'Sasi' and others. But, barring this, the copyist of this Ms. is fairly accurate. He some time confounds 'Pa' with 'Ya', perhaps due to his lack of the knowledge of Sanskrit, or under the influence of the contemporary local Prakrit or Apabhramsa dialects prevalent in Rajasthan. He consistently uses the Paḍi-matra or prstha-matra. His 'Jja' looks like 'Dya' and is is read by some as 'Jya'. The letters 'C' and 'Ch' are not duly distinguished by him. Though there are a few scribal slips and usual lapses, the copyist has a very neat hand throughout.
In the orthography, this Ms. is more inclined to the use of Sa'-irti and 'Sa'śrti, though there are cases where it does not seem to be used. It has some cases of inorganic Yama letters, as in words like 'Varnṇana', 'Abhyarccitum', 'Urvvi', 'Karmmana', and others. It uses the Anusvara as a rule, and not the Para-savarna. In a few cases the '' is used generally at the end of the line only. The conjunct groups like 'Cch', Jjh', Tth', etc., are written even after an Anusvara. In the conjunct groups with ' (Repha) as the second member, the other consonant is written double (the developing partners unaspirated with the aspirated remnants). The blockprints of the photostats of its two double pages of Folio 1 (b) and folio 193 (a) are presented in the beginning before the Editor's Preface.
This Ms. seems to have been written by a careful and educated scribe who seems to have had a thorough understanding of the text-sufficient to enable him to add a few marginal notes, which might possibly be his own work, if not of his
12. By way of recording the date of my completion of the reading of this Ms., I have written in blue-black ink the following remarks in Sanskrit after the last line on folio 193 :
