________________ तिल कम जरी Remarks: The paper of this Ms. is very old and it has turned to dark brown. In some of the folios it has become so much dark brown that it is some what difficult to read the text written on it. At the same time the paper has turned too brittle to stand the stress of more than a couple of very careful handlings. The borders of all the folios are damaged, and some of the folios have cracked in the middle due to such a condition of the very old paper of the Ms. In order to minimize the damage to the edges, I had to put the folios in an envelop of transparent giletin paper while handling it for the purpose of reading. However, the last fifteen folios, i.e. from No. 107 onwards, are in excellent condition. Written as it is on the paper pieces measuring 30.5 x 11 Cms., the written space measures 26 x 9 Cms. The right hand side and the left hand side margins on each of the pages of the folios are marked by 0.25 Cms. thick single red lines on either side and each of these red lines is further marked on both sides by very thinly doubled black lines. There is an ornamental black space left in the centre of each folio and it is marked very prominently with a red dot measuring about 1.6 Cms. in diametre. The margins of page one of each folio are left blank, while on page two of the folios the word 'Tilakamañjari' is written in Devanagari script on the top corner of the left margin, while the folio number is written in the lower corner of the right margin. Again, in the middle of both the left and the right margins there is an oblong red dot, each measuring about 2.00 × 1.75 Cms., and while some auspicious characters 11 3 | are written one upon another, in black ink, the continuous folio number from 758 to 878 are written on each respective page number two of the respective folios. In all the text of the TM copied in this Ms. covers 121 folios. It seems this Ms. forms a part of a big one containing many other texts of other works. Page one of folio 1 has been left blank, and a blank paper is pasted on it to preserve it from further damage to its edges. The letters measure about 0.4 Cm. There are 17 lines on each page of each folio, the lines on the last page of folio 121 being 11 in number. There are about 56 to 65 letters in each line, the number decrea ses in the middle of the page in line 9 where the central decorative blank gets the widest. The marginal notes are written in the upper, lower, left and right margins with indications of the line num bers of the text on the page. Almost all the marginal notes of the P Ms. are found copied here, which fact testifies to the date of this Ms. being subsequent to that of the P Ms. The scribe is generally careful in his copying and he indicates the end of the sentence or a clause thereof with red markings, but at times he confounds a' with T!, "II' with 'q' and 'q', 'with ', and a with , and copies the peculiarities of the sa-śrti and Sa-śrti of the P Ms., while at times adding a few more of his own like the sa-śrti, and dropping them altogether in some other cases. All the corections in the P Ms. have been duly incorporated in the body of the text in this Ms., which fact proves that this Ms. is a copy of the former one, i.e. the P Ms. This Ms. is generally held to belong to the 15th century of the Vikrama Era, but it is in fact the earliest available copy of the P Ms., containing both the text and the marginal notes.
