________________ तिलकम जरी the right and the left sides by thick red treble lines, leaving a margin each on both sides of about 2.3 Cms. Each folio has 15 lines, and each line has approximately 50 syllables. Each letter measures about 0.4 Cm. The first line on page two of folio 1 is written in red ink while the rest of the text is in black ink. There is a decorative black in the middle of the written portion on each side of the folios. Moreover, there are three round red auspicious marks put in the centre of the left margin, in the decorative blank and the right margin of page two of folio 1. The verse numbers on page two the first folio are marked by single Danda in red on both sides of the figure. The Ms. is written in the Padi-Matrā style. The scribe is comparatively careless in his writing and drops many syllables, on an average of about five on cach page of a folio. Although his 'Ca' and “Va' are distinguishable, he confounds Pya' with Ppa', 'Tna' with "Tta', and the tendency of prefering Sa-śrti to Śa-śrti is further distinguished bringing the text-reading to the classical level, while divesting many a reading of its original authentic forms, c. g. 'Kesara' to 'Kesara', and etc. He drops the medial visarga in the words like 'Nihśvasya' etc., while at times he places a couple of small circles, resembling a visaiga, at the end of a line to fill the space. The Ms. seems to have been copied most probably from an Adarśa of the Ś Ms. tradition, as can be seen from many readings and scrible errors as well as lapses that are common to both; it does not seem to have been copied from the Ś Ms. itself, as some of the mistakes committed by it are not repeated here. E. ... the misreading विरचितवतस्तुधकृतिमान० for the correct readind विरचितविचित्रवस्त्रध्वजवितानमात्तक (Crt. Edn.. p. 63, l.n. 13-14). In a few cases some of the lines on a few folios are torn out. since a part of the layer of the folios has got stuck up to the other page of immediately following folio, due to the clogging of the ink of two coinciding lines falling on each other, especially in the case of folios 144 to 152 and 178 to 187, when the folios are tightly packed and humidity affectes the paper of the folio in monsoon. At one end of the Ms., the name of the copyist and of his place have been mentioned as 'Haraşa-Sadhu and Sadvapura', i. e. Siddhapur in the Mehsana District of North Gujarat. The date of completion of the copying task been recorded as Sunday, the 14 th day of the dark half of the month of Posa', i. e. Pauşa in the year V. Sam. 1648, i. e. A. D. 1591. The readings of the text in this Ms. are not very exact. The scribe often misses portions consisting of passages containing two or more lines, 13 14. For instance, the whole second half Cr. Vs. 30 (Crt. Edn. P. 3 L. 8); (Crt. Edo. P.5, LL. 30-32); (Cti. Edn. P. 13. LL. 24-26). Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
