________________ INTRODUCTION critical analysis the 6th Dwa, gives a critical analysis of the author of a Sastra, while the Sth Dwa. discusses the merits and defects of the controversy, based on Jalpa. Among the philosophical Dwa. the 7th gives the main rules of controversy. while the rest of the Dwa. are purely philosophical. Among the philosophical Dwa, six are devoted to the discussion of Non-Jaiua philosophy, and the 9th Dwa. called Veda-Dwa. discusses the nature of Vedas, describes the nature of Purusa (both Saguna and Nirguna as is to be found in the Upanisads. The 12th Dwa. deals with Nyaya; the 13th refers to Sankhya; the 14th mentions Vaiseṣika; the 15th discusses the Buddhist philosophy and the 16th, perhaps refers to Ajivaka philosophy. All the six remaining Dwa (No. 10, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22) discuss generally the Jaina philosophy and the 22nd Dwa. deals with Jaina logic. 164 7 (a) Eulogistic Dwātrimŝikās. In the literature of this sort, the works of the classical authors such as Mayura, the author of SuryaSataka, Bana, the author of Candi Śataka, Samantabhadra and Jambu-Kavi, authors of Jina Sataka and Rama-Candra Bharati, the author of Bhakti-Ŝataka praising Buddha are well-known. But the contents of these works referred to above are purely eulogistic in character and are not based upon philosophy as is the case in the present Dwā. These Stotra works, there fore, need not be compared with the Stutis of Siddhasena. One stotra is worthy of being compared with the Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
