PAUMACARIU
( PART
Hanumat was produced before Rávana, who upbraided him for his disloyalty, the bitter fruits of which he was tasting just then.' In reply Hanumat exhorted Rāvana to hand over Sītā to Rāma and expounded to him the twelve Anuprekşās--modes of religious reflection. His words evoked good appeal in Rāvana's heart.
LV. Sandhi. Hanumat's escape. His return to
Kişkin dha.
Now impressed by dire consequences of committing adultery, now caught by infatuation for Sitä, Rāvana hesitated for a while, but cohsiderations of prestige forced him to make the wrong choice. He abused Hanumat and odered him to stop mouthing sermons before him. When he gave orders to punish him, Hanumat snapped asunder the serpent bonds and taking a jump over Rāvana's head escaped. Using his arms only, he pulled down Rāvana's palace along with which five hundred surrounding houses also were smashed. The city gate too he broke to pieces.
Happy at Hanumat's exploits Sită blessed him. Departing thence, he went to Lankāsundari, took her leave, boarded his aerial car and arrived at Kiskindha. He delivered Sita's message to Rāma along with the token crest-jewel.
Jāinbūvat then narrated the history of Hanumat and praised his great exploits. King Dadhimukha too harped the same tune. Hanumat's minister then gave an account of his master's mission to Lankā. In an upsurge of affection Rama embraced Hanumat.
LVI. Sandhi. Rāma's march to Lanka.
Rāma prepared to march to Lankā. Numerous drums and trumpets were sounded for an all-out mobilisation. Generals got sufficiently armed. Various army divisions and magic powers (Vidyas) were properly arranged. As the army started, it was greeted by numerous good omens.
They reached the ocean. As they were crossing it in aerial cars, they were attacked at the Velandhara city by Setu and Samudra, loyal to. Rāvana. They were defeated by Nala and Nila. They transferred their allegiance to Rāma. Next day the march was resumed. They reached mount Suvela. On the advice of Setu and Samudra, its ruler came over to Rāma's side. On covering a short distance further, the beautiful Lankā came in view. The army encamped at the Hamsadvipa. Its ruler was conquered..
All rested there eager to launch an attack on Lankā.
