IV. METRICAL ANALYSIS
Alsdorf summarised (op. cit. p. 252) the main characteristics of the old arya metre as follows:
(1) the two halves of the stanza are identical (as in the later giti), i.e. there is no shortening of the 6th gana of the 2nd half;
(2) the caesura falls not after the 3rd gana but (expressed in terms of the later arya) in the middle of the 4th gana.
