માનવજીવનની એવી સામાન્ય ભૂમિકા તરીકે દર્શાવ્યું કે યોગશાસ્ત્રમાં શ્રદ્ધાવાળા દયાળુ રાજાને એમાં જીવનનું સુંદર અને સાચું દર્શન લાગ્યું.* હજારે પશુઓને નિરર્થક થતે વધુ પિતે અટકાવી શકે એ વસ્તુ એને અત્યંત આકર્ષક લાગી અને તેણે પિતાના રાજ્યમાં સર્વત્ર અમારિઘોષણા કરાવી : “જે જન્મે તેને જીવવાને હકક” – એમ કવિ ન્હાનાલાલના શબ્દોમાં કહી શકાય. આ પ્રેમધર્મ કુમારપાલના * કુમારપાલનું આ સુંદર અહિંસાદર્શનવાળું માનસ સમજવા માટે નીચે આપેલ એક નોંધ ઘણી ઉપયોગી છે. સત્ય ને અહિંસાને એમાં સૌન્દર્યદષ્ટિથી જોવાનો પ્રયત્ન છે. “I felt like a murderer. For the first time in my life I have killed, not a human-beir:g, it is true, but a bird. It was a black bird that lived in my garden for years; he was proatically tame.” આ પક્ષીને પોતે અચાનક શી રીતે મારે છે એ વાત કરીને લખે છે: “At once I felt cold and guilty. I glanced round to see if anyone was watching. Then I went and picked him up. His body was still quivering... Perhaps his instincts told him he was in, for half an hour's easy feeding. Instead of that he died. My mind was tortured with the thought that perhaps he was collecting food for his family, As soon as I was in the house I threw the gun down and wept like a child. The thought of that little back garden murder has been on mind ever since.” કુમારપાલનું માનસ કઈ પણ જીવની હિંસાના વિચારમાત્રથી ધ્રુજવા માંડયું, એમાં એની અહિંસાધર્મની ખરી શ્રેષ્ઠતા હતી.
