________________ LXIV INTRODUCTION (6) Ganitatilaka?. (7) Bījagamita. (8) Dhruvamānasa® (composed in Slāka 978). SIMHATILAKA SŪRI Simhatilaka Sūri, the commentator of Sripati's Ganitatilaka has mentioned in the introductory stanza of his commentary that he is a pupil of Vibudhacandra Gaṇabhịt. In this work of his, he has given no other hint about his spiritual descent. All the same, from the colophon of Mantrarahasya which seems to be composed by him we learn that his guru Vibudhacandra Sūri is a pupil of Yas'odeva Sūri. At the outset of his commentary on Ganitatilaka, he has mentioned Kundalini Devī and another Devatā probably named as Sāhlāda. There is a work styled as Vardhamānakalpa whose author is named as Simhatilaka Sūri. There is another work viz. Bhuvanadīpikāvrtti of which the author bears the same name. But it remains to be ascertained whether these Sūris are identical with Ganitatilakavrttikära. WORKS ETC. REFERRED TO IN Ganitatilakavrtti Lilavati Simhatilaka Sūri has referred to Līlāvati on pp. 9, 42 and 92. From this it is quite clear that he neither alludes to a work of the same name composed by Nemicandra* (990 A. D.) nor to a work viz. S'rīdharācărya's commentary on Nyāyakandalī, but that he definitely refers to the Pātīganita, a part of Sidhhānta. i The existence of this work is now no more a matter of mere inference to be drawn from its being quoted by Munis'vara alias Vis'varūpa in his work styled as Lilāvatīvivști. The reverse seems to be, however, the case with Bijagamita referred to in Līlāvatīvivrti. For, the source of its Ms, if any, remains unknown. See Dixit, p. 315. 2 Mañjula's Laghumānasa or Brhanmānasat seems to have been utilized in composing this work. 3 There are two other works viz. S'rīpatinibandha and S'rāpatisamuccaya; but, whether their author can be identified with our Sripati or not romains to be ascertained. 4 See Guerinot's Essai de Bibliogaphie Jaina (p. 403).
