Lifeless ritualists are those who
cherish the external rituals without inner discrimination, and they reject the path of knowledge.
Explanation & Discussion:
Here the characteristics of the lifeless ritualists are described. Those, who rely merely upon rituals and cherish in performing them without keeping in view their purpose, are lifeless ritualists. The term ritual connotes some formality. The religious activities undertaken by Jain Shrävaks (householders) as their daily routine, such as, going to the temple, performing Pooja, doing Samayik and Pratikraman, etc. become mechanical and monotonous since they are performed in language that they do not understand. Also, they undertake the rituals without understanding their significance and meaning behind it. The greatest drawback is the false notion behind these activities. The ritualists erroneously think that these activities will reduce their Karmas and take them to the path of liberation.
