________________ Jaina Campū Literature : 131 all manner of description, known to conventional poetry. Śṛngāra, according to Nemicandra, is the only sentiment that deserves prominence and that is what characterizes Līlāvatī. Līlāvatī tells how a Kadamba prince saw in a dream a beautiful princess (the heroine) and she likewise dreamt of him. They were unacquainted, but after mutual search and various adventures were ultimately wedded. Mns. Palm-leaf in Jaina Math, Moodbidri S.No. 84 and 838. Anantanatha Purāṇa (AD 1230), by Janna in Kannada, depicts the life of the 14th Tirthankara. The poem has grown in bulk as a result of lengthy description and elaboration of Jaina doctrine. The episode of Canda, forming the part of this work is something like a counterpart of the Amitagati episode in Yasodharacarita. Janna has made an original contribution to Kannada poetry by his subtle handling of an aspect of unconventional love. Janna was a man of varied gifts and considerable munificence, being both court poet and minister at Ballala Court, and also the builder and beautifier of temples. He was honoured by his patron-king with the title of Kavi Cakravartin (emperor among poets.) His other work is Yasodharacarita in Kannaḍa. Mns. Palm-leaf in Jaina Math, Moodbidri S.No. 828. Punyaśrava by Nagaraja (c.1331 AD) written in Campū style contains 52 tales of Puranic heroes, illustrative of the duties of a householder, supposed to be the translation of a Sanskrit work. Mns. Palm-leaf in Jaina Math, Moodbidri S.No.712. Bibliography: Kapadia, H.R.
