and austerities would yield the desired result or not. Ignorance or illusion is the disbelief that all these activities may prove to be worthless.
विग्गुच्छ त्ति व गरहा, सा पुण आहारमोयमसिणाई। संका दुविहा देसे, सव्वम्मि य तत्थिमा देखे ॥ ४९ ||
४९. वितिगिच्छा के स्थान पर वियुगुच्छ पाठ भी प्राप्त होता है । उसका अर्थ है - साधु की कुत्सा अर्थात् गरहा करना । पुनः यह गरहा साधुजनों के आहार, शरीर की मलीनता और स्नान न करने के आधार पर की जाती है ।
संशय के दो भेद हैं :- देश (आंशिक) और सर्व । आगे देश विषयक शंका का लक्षण कहते हैं :
49. (In some copies of the text there is a mention of viuguccha in place of vitigiccha) This viuguccha means to have disliking for or to speak ill of a sadhu. This dislike is inspired by the unusual style of various activities of the ascetics; such as eating (taking all food in one pot, etc.); remaining un-trimmed (having long hair, beard etc., not cleansing the body, urinating in a pot, etc.) and not bathing. Doubt is of two types — partial and complete. The partial doubt is explained as follows -
