21. श्रमण भगवान महावीर का जन्म
ज्योतिषियों के पूर्वानुमान के अनुसार, राजा सिद्धार्थ को क्षत्रियाणीकी पत्नी त्रिशाला देवी का उत्तर फल्गुणि नक्षत्र में चैत्रशुद्ध त्रयोदशी में भगवान का जन्म हुआ। जिस दिन से क्षत्रियाणी त्रिशाला ने गर्भ धारण किया उस दिन से वह राज्य और भी समृद्ध होकर सुशोभित होने लगा, दिन-प्रति दिन सुख तथा शान्ति और अमन चैन के स्थिर रहने की वजह से तथा राज्य में किसी भी तरह का अकाल न पड़ने के कारण उस बालक का नाम श्री वर्द्धमान रखा गया। स्वर्ग में देवताओं की दुन्दुभियाँ बज़ उठीं । देवताओं ने फूलों की वर्षा बरसाई ।
21 THE BIRTH OF SHRAMANA BHAGAWAN MAHAVIRA
As foretold by the astrologers, Bhagawan Mahavira was born to the royal parents King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala in the month of Chaitra (the first one in the calendar) with the auspicious Uttara Pharlguni for the birth star. When the holy baby was born the Kingdom was enjoying the height of prosperity, since, from the moment of the queen's conceiving (by the transfer of the holy foetus Mahavira) things began to turn more and more auspicious and prosperous in the kingdom of Videha. The fact of the growing prosperity of the kingdom led to the naming of the holy child as "Vardhamana" :- on this occasion the whole universe was flushed with joy and the Gods not only rained down flowers on the earth but also beat their drums of joy.
