45. निजमनोराज्य के लिए वही राजा
स्तूनक नामक एक गाँव में पुष्य नाम धारी एक ज्योतिषी (भवियद्वत्ता) रहता ता । वह एक दिन गंगा में स्नान करने के लिये नदी की ओर जा रहा था। गंगा के किनारे (तट) पर रेत में उसको पाँव के निशाने (चरण-चिह्न) दिखाई पड़े। उन निशानों की जाँच करने पर पुष्य समझ गया कि ये निशान मामूली (सामान्य) आदमी के नहीं हो सकते। पाँवों के ये चिह्न किसी सम्राट के ही होंगे। वह जरूर सम्राट होगा। स्वामी को खोजते हुए वह आगे बढ़ा । वहाँ से नज़दीक के एक विहार में ध्यान-मग्न स्वामी को देखकर उसने उनको प्रणाम किया। स्वामी से बातचीत करने के लिये वहीं प्रतीक्षा में बैठा था । स्वामी ने ध्यान समाप्त कर के आँखें खोली और सामने पुष्य को देख कर मुस्कुराते हुए बातचीत की। स्वामी को पुष्य का मुख देखते ही मालूम हो गया कि उसके मन में क्या है । परन्तु पुष्य के मुँह खोलने के पहले ही स्वामी ने उसको सम्बोधित करते हुए कहा कि एक समय में राजा ही था । राज्य का सासन करते करते मैं अपने बन्धुओं के साथ सुख से रहा था । पर सन्यास की दीक्षा जब से मैं ने ग्रहण की तब से मैं ने अहिंसा को ही अपनी माता, एक निष्टा से ध्यान में रहने को ही अपना पिता, वैराग्य को ही अपना चोटा भाई, शान्ति को ही पनी पत्नी, दया को ही अपनी बेटी, दिव्यानुबूति को ही अपना घर, सत्य को ही अपना मित्र समझा। स्वामी की इनबातों को सुनने के बाद पुष्य ने समझ लिया कि स्वामी राज्य-शासन करने वाला राजा नहीं है बल्कि निजमनोराज्य का शासन करनेवाला राजा ह । मन में ऐसा समझ कर पुष्य अपने गाँव की ओर चला गया।
45 THE RULER OF THE REALM OF THE MIND
In a certain Village called Sthunak, there dwelt a Soothsayer called Pushya. One day he proceeded to the Ganga to have his ablutions. There he saw on the sandy bank the foot prints of Bhagawan Mahavira. Being a seer and soothsayer Pushya looked at the foot-prints intently and came to the conclusion that the owner of the foot-prints was no ordinary mortal. His special knowledge told him that the person must be a King of Kings and so he looked in all directions and ultimately proceeded to a Vihara (a garden meant for Ascetics) which was nearby. Then to his great delight Pushya saw the Swami seated there in deep meditation. Pushya patiently wanted for the Swami to conclude his Dhyana, and was rewarded when the Swami at last opened his eyes and greeted Pushya with a smile. The moment he saw the face of Pushya the Swami understood what in the mind of Pushya was. Then even before Pushya could air his suspicions, Bhagawan Mahavira informed him that the was a King once upon a time and that he rolled in wealth and luxury at that time. But after accepting Sanyasa Deeksha (vow of renunciation) he has come to regard Non-Violence (as) his Mother, Meditation (as) his Father, the Spirit of Renunciation (as) his Brother, Quiescence (as) his Consort, Kindness (as) Daughter, Spiritual Experience (as) his Home and Truth (as) his Companion. Thus spake the Swami. Pushya now realised that he was a King who ruled not a territory nor a people but one who obtained complete control over his mind and over its realm. With this knowledge Pushya retraced his steps towards his native village. Jain Educationa International
