जाति के गृहस्थ और सन्यासी (भिक्षु) के लिये भगवान के बताये हुए विधि-नियम क्या क्या है जब कि गायों की झुण्ड स्वामी के धर्म-प्रचार का संकेत करती है । कमलों का सरोवर स्वामीजी को प्राप्त मानवातीत अथवा अलौकिक शक्तियों को इंगित करता है और समुद्र को पार करना भव सागर अर्थात् जीवन-सागर को पार करने या लाँघने की बात की सूचना देता है । आँखों को चका चौंध करने वाले सूरज का प्रकाश, केवल अथवा अन्तिमज्ञान का द्योतक है। अन्त में उत्पल ने प्रकट किया कि स्वामीजी दृष्टि मेरुके पर्वत पर उनका सिंहासनासीन होना संकेत करता है कि स्वामी जी का अन्तिम ध्येय अथवा गम्य धर्म की स्थापना है। भगवान महावीर ने उत्पल को आशीशों दी और गण्डकी नदी की तरफ बढ़े।
Ornaments of the Neck foretell the Bhagawan's teaching of the duties of the Householder and the Mendicant, while the Herd of Cows stands for the propagation of Dharma by the Swami. The Lotus Pond signifies the Supernatural powers possessed by the Swami while the Crossing of the Sea signifies the fording of the sea of life. The blinding Sun stands for Kevalajnana (the Ultimate Wisdom). Finally Utpala revealed that the vision of the Swami adorning the Throne on Mount Meru signifies the founding of Dharma (the establishment of the Rule of Duty) as the ultimate goal of the Swami. Bhagawan Mahavira blessed Utpala and then proceeded towards the river Gandaki.
