56. वैदिक सम्प्रदाय से श्रमणों के पंथ की ओर
इसके बाद धीरे धीरे गौतम अग्निभूति और गौतम वायुभूति ने भी अपने बड़े भाई का अनुसरण किया। जब वे अपने शिष्यों और प्रशिष्यों के साथ 'समवशरण' में पहुँचे तब स्वामी जी 'चिनमुद्रा' में बैठकर एकाग्र निष्टा पूर्वक ध्यान में मग्न हुए थे । स्वामीजी के शरीर से सुरीली ध्वनि की लहरें (तरंग) निकल कर उनके कानों में आने (पड़ने) लगी । जब वे उन ध्वनियों (शब्दों) का अर्थ समझने का प्रयत्न कर रहे थे तभी स्वामी जी ने अपने आँखें धीरे धीरे खोली और अग्निभूति और वायुभूति को उनके जन्म के समय रखे गये नामों से सम्बोधित किया। इसके बाद उनको समझाया कि कर्म-सिद्धान्त क्या होता है और केवल ज्ञान' की उत्कृष्टता कैसी होती है। केवल ज्ञान की विशिष्टता को विवरण (विस्तार) पूर्वक बताया। गौतम की वंश परम्परा के इन तीनों भाइयों के बाद क्रमश: व्यक्त, सुधर्म, मण्डित, अचलभद्र, मौर्यपुत्र, अकम्पिता, मातर्य और प्रभास अपने वैदिक सम्प्रदाय के शिष्य गणों के साथ वहाँ पहुँचे । तब तक को चन्दनबाला वहाँ आ चुकी थी और स्वामी जी के आध्यात्मिक विजय के बारे में सुनकर उसने अपना शेषजीवन स्वामीजी के चरणों की सन्निधि में व्यतीत करने (बिताने) का निश्चय कर लिया। स्वामी जी ने मधुर मुस्कुराहट के साथ उनका स्वागत किया और उनको पंचभूतों के अस्तित्व, ऐहिक बन्धन, स्वर्ग और नरक, नैतिक विषयों को सोदाहरण, विस्तार पूर्वक समझाया। स्वामी जी ने मीठी बातों में उनको समझा दिया कि अहिंसा और सम्यक दर्शन का सावधान पूर्वक पालन करने से आधिभौतिक जीवन की क्लेशकारिणी समस्याओं से कैसे मुक्ति मिलती है। उन्होंने इन बातों का स्पष्ट प्रकाशन अर्द्धमागधी भाषा के मधुर स्वरों (शब्दों) में किया । सब श्रोता स्वामी के उक्त भाषण की बातों की सच्चाई से सहमत होकर सविनय अहिंसा - मार्ग के अनुयायी बने । स्वामीन उनको उछिष्ट पद्धति के अनुसार सन्यास धर्म में दीक्षा दी।
56 FROM THE VAIDIK TRADITION TO THE PATH OF SHRAMANAS
After the coming of Gauthama Indrabhuti into the fold of Shramana Bhagawan Mahavira, his brother Agnibhuti and Vayubhuti, accompanied by their own disciples and their followers, reached Samavasarana. When they reached the spot, the Swami was in deep concentration in the posture called Chinmudra. Melodious sounds emanated from the body of the Swami and the visitors were thrilled to hear them. While they were trying to understand the meanings of those sounds, the Swami slowly opened his eyes and addressed them by their names. Then he explained to them the Law of Karma and the relationship between the Jiva and Karma and the superiority of Supreme Knowledge (Kevalajnana). The next to follow these three brothers of the clan of Gauthama were Vyakta, Sudharma, Manditha, Achalabhadra, Mauryaputra, Akampita, Prabhasa along with their followers of the Vaidik tradition. Already by then Chandanabala had arrived there, having heard of the spiritual victory of the Swami and decided to spend the rest of her life at the feet of the Swami. The Swami welcomed them with a sweet reassuring smile and explained to them the existence of the five elements, the earthly bonds, heaven and hell and the moral law along with relevant examples. He further explained to them how the observance of Ahimsa (non-violence), and Equanimity (Samyak Darshana) can provide deliverance from the harrying problems of material life. His exposition was delivered in Arthamagadhi in melodious tones. All the listeners were convinced of the exposition made by the Swami and reverentially followed the path of Ahimsa. The Swami admitted them into monkhood according to the procedure prescribed.
