Vidyamandir, gives the reading "kāyānam'; and the tabā explains it as 'kāvadi vahate'.
The ms. of the Anuyogadvārasūtra (with Bälävabodha), belonging to the 20th Cent. V.S. and preserved in the L.D.B.S. Vidyamandir, gives the reading 'kāvadiyānam'. It seems that on the basis of the meaning kävadivāhakānām' given in the tikā some scholar might have afterwards written kävadiyānam in place of either kāyānam or its corrupt form, considering it to be correct. Sāgarānandasūriji and Amolakarșiji might have obtained some ms. giving the reading kāvoyānam. We have already stated that the mss. giving this reading are seldom available.
From the above discussion it follows that the word kāya being not used or very rarely used in the sense of carrier of kāvada and the forms kāya and kāta being found in the mss. of țīkas the learned copyists seem to have imagined the word kavoya or kāvadiya to make it consistent with the meaning given in ţikā and to have included it in the body of the text proper in place of kāya. The reading kāvadiya is rarely found in the mss. Moreover, the mss. giving this reading contain tabă or bālāvabodha and belong to the period after the 18th Cent. V.S.
There is no reason to consider the reading "kāya' or kāta' to be having no sense of carrier of kāvada'. In the Jaina Āgamic. literature at one place the term kāva18 has been employed in the sense of carrier of kāvada'. Similarly, here too the term "kāya' or 'kāta' is used in the sense of a carrier of kavada'. And as this reading invariably occurs in old mss. of the Anuyogadvārasūtra and also in those of the ţikā it should be regarded as original and correct reading.
The crux of this long discussion is-(1) The reading kāvoyānań found in the editions of the Anuyogadvāra published upto this date is corrupt while the reading kāyānam is correct and certified. (2) The desya term kāvoya given by the compiler of the Prakrtakośa in the

sútra-malayagiriyā Vrtti, published by Devachand Lalbhai Jaina Pustakoddhāra Fund, p. 281.1). The text proper printed in this work does not contain the reading kāvapicchãi vā. Not only that, but many other words and phrases of the Sūtra) connected with this reading and explained in the Vștti are not here printed in the text of the Jivābhigamasutra. It is really a matter of delight that we have obtained a ms. representing the ancient recension of the Jivabhigamasūtra. This recension is mostly consistent with the Vștti by Malayagiri. The ms. belongs to the Jaisalmer Bhandara. We will, without fail, utilize this ms. while critically editing the text of the Jivābhigamasutra.
