Clarification about some of the Readings accepted by us
Sometimes we have accepted the readings accepted by the author of the Cūrņi48, sometimes those accepted by Ac. Haribhadra in his Vịtti49, sometimes those accepted by Ac. Malayagiri in his Vịtti50, sometimes those accepted by hc. Maladhāriji51, sometimes those accepted by both the author of the Cūrņi and Ac. Malayagiri52, sometimes those accepted by both the author of the Cūrni and Ac. Haribhadra53 and sometimes those accepted by both Āc. Haribhadra and Maladhāriji.54 This is so because we have accepted readings, giving thought to their propriety.
At one place we have accepted the reading which is available in all the mss. but is not found in the three commentaries, viz. the Curni, the V?tti by Haribhadra and the Vịtti by Malayagiri. The reading accepted in those three commentaries is noted down by us in the foot-note.55
48. See the original reading of the Nandisūtra, on which we have written
a foot-note no. 13 on p. 16. This reading is available in the mss. belonging to different groups. At one place we have accepted the reading accepted in the Cürņi, even though it is found in none of the mss. This is the original reading on which we have written a foot-note, no. 9
on p. 4. 49. See the original reading of the Anuyogadvārasūtra, on which we have
written a foot-note, no. 11 on p. 180. The explanation contained in the Cūrņi being brief it is not possible for us to know as to which reading
is accepted by the author of the Cūrni. 50. See the foot-note no. 6 on p. 20 and the foot-note no. 2 on p. 21, and also
the original reading of the Nandisūtra on which these two foot-notes
are. Note that the reading accepted by us is available in none of the mss. 51. See the foot-notes 18th, 20th and 25th on p. 119 and foot-note no. 1 on
p. 181 and also the original readings of the Anuyogadvārasūtra, on which these foot-notes are. The readings occurring at these places are not found in the Cūrņi, or in the Vrtti by Haribhadra or in any manuscript. Moreover, the reading put in between the two signs 4
(Anuyogadvārasūtra Sūtra 37) is available in #ms. only. 52. See the foot-note no. 5 on p. 40 and also the original reading of the
Nandisutra on which this foot-note is. The reading which is available in all the mss, and is accepted by Haribhadra in his Vitti is noted
down by us in a foot-note. 53. See the original readings of the Nandisūtra, on which we have written
the foot-notes nos. 9 and 11 on pages 16 and 19 respectively. . 54. See the original readings of the Anuyogadvārasūtra, on which we have
written the foot-notes nos. 1 and 4 on pages 164 and 180 respectively. 55. See the foot-note no. 1 on p. 19 and also the original reading of the
Nandisūtra.
