Vimala's Paumachariyam is an attempt to alter Ramāyaṇa to suit the needs of the Jainas. Works like Nandisūtra show that the religious and literary activities of Jaina sadhus, were influenced by the Vedas, Mahabharata, Ramayana, etc. P. 217. In Gurjaradeśa around Bhillamala, Jainism acquired great influence and the Jaina sadhrs were active in pursuit of literature in the 8th century. Udyotana's Dharmakatha embodies the cordinal sins through a succession of lives. Jaina Dharmakatha was losing, or had lost, touch with real life.
