Another possible explanation is to US gul-i-mihr, 'flower of the sun,' as the tree is in its glory and blossoms in summer, when the sun is at the height of his power. Here the word for sweepers ' in the text is halal.or (Text. II, 205). Blochmann says that "it is doubtful whether it was Akbar's invention" (ibid., note). But Abûl-Fazl does not state that the Emperor intented it. He is said only to have brought it into vogue. In this connection, the following sentence from Thévenot, which Yule has omitted from his quotation, is worthy of attention : "And they who approve this last application, say that heretofore the Halaloour were called Haramcour, eaters of prohibited weats; but that a King one day hearing his courtiers
