When śramara Bhagavān Mahāvira was sojourning at å aja Kūrma-grāma, a young liermit named after fra Vaisikāyina, who was naturally well-behaved, amiable, and of a forbearing disposition, was practising penance, out-side the village, at mid-day by remain ng bare-bodied in the scorchmg heat of the Sun, with his arms raised up, and his gaze steadily directed to the disc of the Sun, and keeping his long well-grown braid of matted hair loose in the air.
Gośāla Mankhalıputra on seeing the hermit, went to him and very loudly asked him "Are you any well-known ascetic or a resting place for lice ?
