GANADHARA AKAMPITA.
Ganadhara Akampita of naa Gautama-gotra, was the eighth Gaşadhara of Śramaņa Bhagavān Mahāvira. He was born at fafar Mithilă. His father was Déva, and his mother was atret Jayanti. He was a Brāhmin by caste. He was well-versed in the four Védas and the six ggins Upāngas Supplementary Sciences. He had three hundred pupils who were receiving instruction in various branches of learning under him.
Ārya Akampita had a doubt about ARC IS Nārakas, Hellish beings-as a result of some misleading interpretations of verses of the Vedas.

When, however, Arya Akampita approached Bhagavān Mahāvira, he was addressed thus:
अथ नारकसन्देहात् सन्दिग्धमकम्पितं विबुधमुख्यम् । ऊचे विभुर्यथास्थं वेदार्थ किं न भावयसि ॥१॥
1. Atha Nāraka-sandéhất sandigdhamakampitam vibudha
mukhyam ; Ucé vibhu-r-yathāstham Vèdārtham kim na bhāvayasi ?
